Careers Programmes in the U.K.
As one of Lazard's principal locations, we have a wide variety of challenging and fulfilling positions in the United Kingdom across both our Financial Advisory and Asset Management businesses. These range from intern and analyst opportunities for students and graduates to leadership roles for seasoned professionals.
Analyst Programme
- Analysts are a key contributor in all aspects of our advisory work, with direct exposure to our senior bankers and trusted advisors. You will be supporting our transaction teams by conducting financial analysis and modeling, company and industry sector research, creating and preparing client presentations, interacting with clients, and experiencing and contributing to real projects.
-
Analysts are assigned to a sector or product team according to their team preference and business need at the time of joining. Analysts are also assigned a buddy. As an analyst you will gain experience across a number of different disciplines and transactions, as well as gain exposure with a range of senior bankers as part of a project team. This experience will be invaluable during your early years at Lazard.
- Our new Analyst class will attend an extensive five-week European training programme, which will provide them with a sound understanding of the technical and business aspects of their role. As your career progresses, you will discuss your training and development needs with your managers semi-annually, as part of the firm's performance management process. As part of your ongoing development, you will have the opportunity to attend technical and business skills courses regularly, alongside other European colleagues. Analysts are expected to complete the compulsory Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) regulatory exams before starting work.
Applications open: 23rd September 2024, closing on 23rd October 2024
We recruit on a rolling basis process, whereby applications are reviewed as they are received. We strongly advise prospective candidates to submit their applications at the earliest opportunity, as positions may be filled prior to the stated deadline. Once all roles have been successfully filled, the application process will be closed, which may occur before the advertised deadline.
The first step in our recruitment process is to complete an online profile and upload your CV.
Here are some guidance notes to help you.
- You may only submit one application for a London role in any given year. It is important to check the eligibility criteria before beginning your application.
- Please check that your phone number and email address are correct as this is the only way we can contact you.
- Please make sure to include all key information on your CV including the following: grades from school, university, and further education; years attended at school and years attending at university, work experience (including non-finance related work experience); key skills and achievements. There is no requirement to attach a covering letter.
- You will be provided with updates on your application via the email address that you provided (please check junk/spam folders just in case).
- You can update your personal details in your application profile at any time.
Our Online Assessments consist of an Aptitude Test, a Behavioural Trait Assessment, and a Video Assessment.
We use Assessments to give our candidates the opportunity to demonstrate their unique strengths and characteristics, which are relevant for the role, in an objective and unbiased way. Later stages of the recruitment process may probe these results to help us further understand your capabilities and preferences.
The Assessments are designed to objectively assess candidates and provide our team with more insights into:
- Your critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Your ability to take to training quickly and apply new learnings
- Your behavioural traits and preferences, and the alignment of these with the role at Lazard and our organizational values
What to expect:
- The Aptitude Assessment is a 15-minute timed test. The goal is to answer as many questions correctly as you can; there is no deduction in scoring for educated guesses. If you get stuck, we suggest you make an educated guess and move on. Although you may not answer them all, try to answer as many as possible. Don’t spend too much time on any one question. You are NOT permitted to use calculators or any other problem-solving device.
- The Behavioural Trait Assessment is untimed and takes approximately 10 minutes. Please make sure you are reading through the prompts carefully and answering as accurately as possible based on your preferences. After you complete the assessments, you will receive a copy of your Workplace Insights Report in your email. This personalised report highlights your strengths and potential challenges, heightening your self-awareness and helping you understand how to relate better to others in the workplace.
- The Video Assessment will focus on some interview style questions around your motivation, cultural fit, and interest in our organization and industry.
The Assessments will take approximately 35-40 minutes to complete. You must complete these in one sitting so please ensure you have a stable internet connection before you begin. Make sure you are somewhere quiet and free from distractions so you can perform to your full potential.
Once you click on the Assessment link, if you experience technical difficulties or need support, please contact Criteria Support via the blue/green icon on the bottom right-hand corner of the page.
Please note, if you have already taken the Assessments in the last 12 months, you do not need to retake these. When you are invited to complete Assessments and the Video Interview, it will prompt you to complete the Video Assessment only.
Those candidates successful at the Online Assessment stage will be invited to attend a virtual Assessment Centre, which would typically require you to perform a number of exercises with a small number of other candidates. The Assessment Centre is designed to give us a realistic picture of your current skills, abilities and potential. It also allows our colleagues to assess your cultural fit within our organisation. This is a 2-way recruitment process however, and it is just as important that you get to experience what it might be like to work at Lazard, so we have designed the Assessment Centre to give you an insight into the role of a Lazard Industrial Placement, Intern or Analyst and to meet some of the people you may work with in the future.
It’s very important to remember that you are not in direct competition with your fellow candidates attending the assessment day. We will progress all candidates who successfully meet our specific selection criteria to the final interview stage of the process. We have a strong collegiate working environment here at Lazard and our assessment process is designed to reflect this.
If you are invited to an assessment centre, we will provide you a full briefing on the process beforehand, including what to expect on the day and how to prepare in advance.
Candidates who are shortlisted from the Assessment Centre will be invited to attend in-person Final Round Interviews with a number of our senior bankers at our offices. These interviews will typically occur within one week off the Assessment Centre. Should you have any competing exploding offers that fall within this timeframe, please let a member of the Graduate Recruitment Team know at the earliest opportunity so we can do our best to accommodate you.
The interviews comprise of two separate interviews lasting approximately 30 minutes each. These interviews typically cover a range of different competencies and you can expect questions around Lazard, the financial markets, world affairs and some technical financial questions. We are just as interested in your personality and individuality as we are about your academic and extra-curricular achievements. If you are successful in being invited to attend the Final Round Interviews you will be provided with further interview preparation guidance.
If you are successful in the final round interviews, we will make you a formal written offer. You will have 1 week to accept and return a signed copy of the contract to accept your place on the programme.
Lazard’s European Analyst Training Programme
Each summer our incoming European Analyst class gathers in London for a six-week training programme, which includes technical training, banker masterclasses, power skills training and networking activities. Click to watch our highlights video from the 2023 programme.
Intern Programme
- Interns will be assigned to a number of sector or product teams for the duration of the ten-week programme, ensuring a broad experience by providing exposure to different teams, bankers and clients. You will be involved in real work for real clients, so not only will you gain invaluable practical experience, you will have exposure to a network of senior finance experts who will be on hand to share their experiences with you and to offer you support and guidance.
- You will be assigned an Analyst “buddy” to coach you throughout the internship, and a senior mentor to give you further insight into Lazard, and a potential career within investment banking. As part of the ten-week internship, you will attend one week of technical training before joining your team and will also receive follow-up technical and presentation skills training during the programme.
- A Lazard Summer Internship can lead to a full-time placement offer for the following year’s Analyst programme. During the final week of the internship, you will be asked to give a ten-minute presentation to a panel of senior bankers. Your presentation, along with your performance during the internship, will determine if an offer will be extended to you.
- Our “Spring into Summer” pre-Internship development and mentoring programme, is an exciting programme designed to help you connect with Lazard and prepare you for your summer internship. Spring into Summer offers a unique opportunity for you to develop your skills over time, build stronger relationships with your intern class and get more exposure to our business and people before starting your internship.

You are also encouraged to register for and attend scheduled live chats with the graduate recruitment team, where you can ask and view questions about the recruitment process.
It is important that you take the Video Assessment in an environment where you can stand or sit comfortably to answer the questions. You should make sure you are in a quiet room where you will be free from background noise, distractions or interruptions for the duration of the Assessment. You should treat the Video Assessment in the same way as you would an in-person interview by presenting yourself smartly, however you do not need to be in business attire.
